The first 100 nautical miles are behind us!

After we started yesterday around 10:30 local time from Santa Cruz, we went first under engine around the southern tip of La Palma. Then in the early afternoon the wind picked up, we were able to switch off the engine and continue our journey under sail in 20 to 25 knots of half wind. Since then, we made good progress with a speed of about 6 knots.

However, since then, unfortunately, the swell running crosswise has also been shaking us a bit. But still all stowage compartments are filled with food and most of it has remained in its place. In the meantime, our “sea legs” have also grown and we have largely become accustomed to the swaying, even if one or the other pill against seasickness has gone “over the table”.

In the meantime, the wind dropped again and again or turned during the passage of the last Canary Islands. The night watch could enjoy – especially after the setting of the moon – the first great starry sky of our trip. Unfortunately, in the last hours the wind – but at least with it also the swell – decreased a bit, so that now we only make a little more than 3 knots. If we believe the forecasts, we will probably spend the last day of the year and the New Year with rather little wind. But in the following days it supposed to breeze again.
